Kanthale Tank
Kanthale tank has a capacity of 114,000ac.ft with an FSD of 38.75ft. The 2524 Metter-long bund is provided with rip rap for most of its length. It has Ogee type spill with 10 Nos of radial gates, each of size 15ft wide and 8ft .high. The spill stream is encroached for most of its length. Thus during the times of opening the spill gates, GA Trincomalee, police DS (Kanthale) and people living along the spill have to be informed about the opening the spill gates. The main drainage stream is diverted at a location called Kusumakade-Wan Ela to feed a major tank called Wan Ela tank from the drainage water. Lots of stick dam-anicuts across this spill stream below Kusumakade-Wan Ela are used by farmers to cultivate a large extent of land outside the scheme.
At the time of spilling, all the gates of Kusumakade-Wan Ela anicut and Potankadu anicut shall be raised fully and inlet to Wan Ela tank closed as the Wan-ela tank does not have a good spill to discharge entire water.
There are two sluices in Kanthale tank both having same sill level. RB sluice is called Montana Sluice this partly goes through a tunnel.
